At the end of this year of 2015, my wife and I finally finished our remodel on our cottage and got our B&B license to run our Maui vacation rental in Haiku, Maui.
It was a long process, starting with working with the County of Maui, who were very helpful. We started the remodel process in September, gutting the inside, tearing out countertops, installing a new bathroom, installing new hardwood floors, and on and on. We were finally approved in November, which was a huge blessing.
Our Swiss friends Roger and Sandra could have been windsurfing but instead chose to help us with endless demo work, painting and installing tile and wood floors. (Oh, by the way, they are very hot windsurfers.) When I can, Dana Anderson, a local Maui girl, friend, kiter, and hot surfer, was a big help as well.
Another couple that was a blessing was Tom and Heidi Chen who helped me install wood floors, very cool.
Our first booking came from Maui Tropical Vacations ( if you need Maui activities or rentals, give them a call). My brother’s girlfriend Paula was in the mix, making beds and sweeping out the door as our first guests checked in.
We are very happy now to be booking the Pineapple Cottage in Haiku Maui as a legal Maui vacation rental. Our property is located on two and a half acres. We have lived on the property for 34 years, planting fruit trees, palms, and tropical flowers to set the property off.
